A
Brief History of Saraha Buddhist Society, Johor Bahru
In
1995, with the encouragement of His Holiness 14 Shamarpa,
Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, several disciples of Rinpoche decided
to set up a Dharma society for the great benefit of sentient
beings. As a result they began the process of registering
the society with the appropriate organizations. There was
much joy when, in 1997, the registration of the centre finally
got approval from the government.

In
the same year, the centre was setup and initiated with a grand
opening ceremony. HH 14 Shamarpa gave the centre the name 'Saraha'
in remembrance of the great Indian Siddha. With HH 17th Kamarpa
Trinlay Thaye Dorje and HH 14th Sharmapa Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche
as guru, Saraha Buddhist Society, a centre that spread the teachings
of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism was finally established
in Johor Baru.
On
23rd November 1997, our centre with honored by the presence of HH
14 Shamarpa, Honourable Lodro Rinpoche and many lamas, who arrived
at our centre for the grand opening celebrations. From that time
onwards, we have had many Rinpoches and Lamas visiting our centre
to perform pujas, to give Initiations and to give Dharma talks.
For 5 years, we have always upheld the ideal of spreading the Dharma
for the benefit of sentient beings, and to follow closely to the
teachings of the Karma Kagyu Lineage.
In
order to help our Dharma brothers and sisters to have a deeper understanding
in Dharma, various activities have been organized, such as offerings,
meditation, dharma talks and discussions. We hope that anyone who
is interested will join us and participate in the activities that
we prepare.
With
the great blessings of our glorious lineage and the lineage Gurus,
we wish that Dharma may spread for the benefits of all sentient
beings.
