Mani Project for World Peace

15 Dec 2006 - 01 Jan 2007

We are very happy to announce that Ven. Shabdrung Rinpoche and our Resident Lama will be conducting a Mani Project from 15th December 2006 to lst January 2007. A brief introduction to Shabdrung Rinpoche and Lama Zotpa follows the explanation of the practice, the schedule, and suggested donations.

Mani Project - Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hum

I am sure all of you are very familiar with the Chanting of this 6-syllable mantra. It is said that "the 6-syllable mantra is the speech manifestation and the wisdom energy of all the Buddhas. It purifies our impure perception of sound. It is also a means to protect our mind from its deluded thoughts. It cuts off one's ignorance and opens up one's wisdom. It augments immeasurable blessings, and peacefulness can be obtained. It can save and alleviate beings from hundreds and thousands of sufferings and difficulties."

Om Mani Padme Hum - Mani Project

This may sound inconceivable to some people. However, Bodhisattva Chenrezig has made great aspirations and accumulated countless merits, wisdom and skillful means to help sentient beings. He has the 'hook' to liberate beings. If we have the sincerity and deep faith in him and exercise efforts in our practice of the Dharma, we are likened to having 'a solid and unbroken wing' with our ring of faith, Avalokitesvara / Chenrezig will be able to 'fish' us out of our sufferings.

Such being the case, we are very happy to organize the 2-weeks chanting of the 6-syllable mantra Om Mani Padme Hung from 15 - 31 December 2006. On lst January 2007 we will conclude with the Green Tara Puja followed by Releasing Lives.

Biographies of the Officiating Sangha of the Mani Project

Venerable Shabdrung Rinpoche

Venerable Shabdrung Rinpoche was recognized at the age of 8 years by His Holiness Sakya Trizin. He studied all the Buddhist texts with its allied topics including Buddhist philosophy, and through an ardous process of learning and reflecting, he graduated from his monastery Dhong Nyizer Choekor Darjeling, a monastery situated in Eastern Tibet.

Rinpoche is the head lama of Dhongzong monastery of the Sakya lineage. His previous incarnation was the elder brother of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. Since that time, Rinpoche had received the entire cycle of the Kagyu-Sakya tantric transmission from His Holiness Sakya Trichen Rinpoche.

Lama Skarma Zotpa

Lama Skarma Zotpa is a genuine monk of Karma Drubgyud Choeling Monastery, Ladakh, India. This monastery was established in 1973 by the late Ven. Lama Chimey Rinpoche (appointed by the late HH 16th Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje) to preserve and promote the study of Buddhist culture, arts, literature, philosophy and practice. Presently, the monastery has around 72 monks who are being taught both spiritual and modern education.

Lama Zotpa was born on 15th June 1970. He was ordained at the age of 14. At our persistent request HH 17th Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje has sent Lama Zotpa to be our Resident Lama. He is not only well qualified, but has also completed the 3-year retreat in Palping, Nepal. Lama Zotpa has also been appointed by His Holiness to be in charge and to oversee the re-construction of the Karma Drubgyud Choeling Monastery. The Monastery has recently collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Ladakh on 01/08/2006. Many statues, stupas, scriptures, thangkas and other religious objects were destroyed. Any assistance devotees can render would be very much appreciated.
