Mani Project - Om Ma Ni Pad Me Hum
By now, we feel sure all of you are very familiar with the chanting of the 6-syllable mantra. It is said that "the 6-syllable mantra is the speech manifestation and the wisdom energy of all the Buddhas. It purifies our impure perception of sound. It is also a means to protect our mind from its deluded thoughts. It cuts off one's ignorance and opens up one's wisdom. It augments immeasurable blessings and peacefulness can be obtained. It can save and alleviate beings from hundreds and thousands of sufferings and difficulties."
The 6-syllable mantra of Chenrezig is the essence of 84,000 heaps of the Teachings. The benefits and merits of this MANI mantra are inconceivable. Just by hearing and chanting the mantra, it is like practicing the Six Perfections and is able to close the doors to the six realms. Also some other benefits mentioned are:
- One will be able to remove obstacles, have success in life, harmony in family, good health and prosperity
- One will always be reborn in virtuous places where there is a lot of Dharma practices, lots of temples, holy objects, statues and stupas where one is inspired by these objects to help in our Dharma practices.
- One will always meet with fortunate times and good conditions which will help in our Dharma practices and to be able to receive teachings and meditate well.
- One will always receive a perfect human body.
- One's mind will become familiar with the path, with virtues.
- One will always meet with virtuous friends, will be protected and served by others.
- By listening to the pure Dharma, one will be able to actualize the profound meaning of emptiness.

This may sound inconceivable to some people. Bodhisattva Chenrezig, emanation of Avalokitesvara, has made great aspirations and accumulated countless merits, wisdom and skillful means to help sentient beings. He has the 'hook' to liberate beings. If we have the sincerity and deep faith in Him and exercise efforts in our practice of the Dharma, we are likened to having 'a solid and unbroken wing' and with our ring of faith, Chenrezig will be able to 'fish' us out of our sufferings.
Our Society has been organizing this yearly program since 1997 to coincide with the end-year long holidays. Do bring your family and friends especially the children to get them started young to plant this virtuous seed for their own benefit. What better way to spend their school holidays? There will be a number of empowerments by Rinpoche to benefit the new and old members so please check the program for the relevant days.
