date, a group of Malaysian devotees visited Nepal in 1975 to attend
a month-long Buddhist Ceremony in Ven. Urgyen Tulku Rinpoche's Monastery
and it was here that they met His Holiness, the late HH 16 Gyalwa
Karmapa who was the Vajra Master. This group of Malaysians invited
His Holiness to Malaysia and He accepted.
His
Holiness, en route to America in late 1976, planned a very brief
4 days' visit to Malaysia. A welcoming committee was set up and
the first meeting was held at an old temple in Jalan Birch. His
Holiness arrived on 22.10.76 and spent two days at the Kong Chee
Name Cave in Ipoh. He returned to Kuala Lumpur on 24.10.76 and stayed
at the Kwan Yin Kok Temple in Ipoh Road. Here, for the first time,
the sacred ceremony of the Black Crown (Vajra Mukut) was performed
with more than a thousand people participating.

Letter of authority given by HH16
Karmapa - 1976 (50kb) |
On
25.10.76, His Holiness invited the committee to His room and gave
them the Karma Pakshi empowerment, after which he handed a letter
of authority to the committee together with a generous donation
of RM 7,000 to start a centre in Kuala Lumpur. Thus the seed of
Vajrayana ripened in Malaysia and the birth of Karma Kagyu
opening like a sunflower.
Our centre organised the second visit of His Holiness to Malaysia
in 1980. He toured the whole of Malaysia, visiting all Karma
Kagyu centres to give teachings, empowerments and the sacred
Vajra Mukut Ceremony to benefit innumerable people in Malaysia. |

In
1986 we had to move as the owner wanted the bungalow back. Fortunately
enough,we managed to secure the current place whichis a very old
Kuan Yin temple. We acquired this property even though the lease
was expiring in 1996. This was at the advice of the late Ven. Jamgon
Kongtrul Rinpoche and since then No.2, Lorong Jubilee has been our
spiritual home.
