Visit by H.E. Beru Khyentse Rinpoche, and H.E. Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche - Nov 2002

9 November 2002, the location – Karma Kagyu Dharma Society, Kuala Lumpur centre. It’s a very auspicious day; indeed, it’s a rainy and thundery day, showing down the blessings and compassion of Mahakala under the watchful eyes of HH17 Karmapa.

 
 
 


The Mahakala Puja

His Eminence Beru Khyentse Rinpoche has arrived, and out of compassion, and for the benefit of beings, Rinpoche has decided to perform a one night Mahakala puja in our centre. This is despite a long and tiring grand Kalachakra puja, titled Kalachakra for World Peace which he presided over the previous 5 days.

HE Beru Khyentse Rinpoche’s entourage includes HE 4 Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche, who is just 7 years old. HE Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche is in fact the son of H.E. Beru Khyentse Rinpoche, and was recognized as the rebirth of this precious lineage of gurus by HH Shamar Rinpoche and HH 17 Karmapa. Accompany them, are his mother and 10 lamas for the grand Puja, as well as a translator.

Around 7.30pm, the crowd of devotees starts to gather at the main hall in centre, and the convoy containing Rinpoches and Lamas arrives around 8.00pm. Upon entering the centre, they are greeted by the sound of Jaling performed by the Lamas, by Ven Samdup Rinpoche (and his accompany lama), and by Ven Lama Tsultrim Rinpoche.There is then the enthusiastic offering of ghatas by committee members and devotees.

After all the warm welcomes and offerings, the devotees settle down before the start of the Puja. At 8.30pm the Mahakala Puja began, with led by H.E. Beru Khyentse, accompanied by all the visiting Rinpoches and Lamas. The shrines had been lit up beautifully, thanks to the hard working committee and many volunteers. Offerings of flowers were brought in by many people. In addition, much hard work was put in by Lamas, volunteers and committee members in preparing different types of Tormas for the puja. The Mahakala Puja itself was very elaborate, with many tormas offerings, and Tsok offerings. In all, it lasted for some 3 hours.

The Puja was followed by a kind speech given by our president, Mr Wong Wing Ki, expressing the centre’s gratitude and appreciation to Rinpoche for making time to come to our centre to perform such a wonderful and successful Puja.

Rinpoche then made a speech, and expressed how pleased he was with the development of the centre, especially as next year will mark the beginning of the development of the new Kuala Lumpur centre. Rinpoche said that as this was Karmapas centre, he always agreed to help the centre to raise funds for the new building.

As the conclusion of the evenings events, Rinpoche made very compassionate wishes of peace and happiness to all sentient beings, and blessed all those who were present.
