The Mahakala Puja
His
Eminence Beru Khyentse Rinpoche has arrived, and out of compassion,
and for the benefit of beings, Rinpoche has decided to perform a
one night Mahakala puja in our centre. This is despite a long and
tiring grand Kalachakra puja, titled Kalachakra for World Peace
which he presided over the previous 5 days.
HE
Beru Khyentse Rinpoche’s entourage includes HE 4 Jamgon Kontrul
Rinpoche, who is just 7 years old. HE Jamgon Kontrul Rinpoche is
in fact the son of H.E. Beru Khyentse Rinpoche, and was recognized
as the rebirth of this precious lineage of gurus by HH Shamar Rinpoche
and HH 17 Karmapa. Accompany them, are his mother and 10 lamas for
the grand Puja, as well as a translator.
Around
7.30pm, the crowd of devotees starts to gather at the main hall
in centre, and the convoy containing Rinpoches and Lamas arrives
around 8.00pm. Upon entering the centre, they are greeted by the
sound of Jaling performed by the Lamas, by Ven Samdup Rinpoche (and
his accompany lama), and by Ven Lama Tsultrim Rinpoche. There is
then the enthusiastic offering of ghatas by committee members and
devotees.
After all the warm welcomes and offerings, the devotees settle down
before the start of the Puja. At 8.30pm the Mahakala Puja began, with
led by H.E. Beru Khyentse, accompanied by all the visiting Rinpoches
and Lamas. The shrines had been lit up beautifully, thanks to the
hard working committee and many volunteers. Offerings of flowers were
brought in by many people. In addition, much hard work was put in
by Lamas, volunteers and committee members in preparing different
types of Tormas for the puja. The Mahakala Puja itself was very elaborate,
with many tormas offerings, and Tsok offerings. In all, it lasted
for some 3 hours.
The Puja was followed by a kind speech given by our president, Mr
Wong Wing Ki, expressing the centre’s gratitude and appreciation
to Rinpoche for making time to come to our centre to perform such
a wonderful and successful Puja.
Rinpoche
then made a speech, and expressed how pleased he was with the development
of the centre, especially as next year will mark the beginning of
the development of the new Kuala Lumpur centre. Rinpoche said that
as this was Karmapas centre, he always agreed to help the centre
to raise funds for the new building.
As
the conclusion of the evenings events, Rinpoche made very compassionate
wishes of peace and happiness to all sentient beings, and blessed
all those who were present.
