HH17 Karmapa and HH Shamar Rinpoche attend Opening

Shree Divakar Buddhist Research Institute has been officially opened on 17 February 2002


HH 17th Karmapa, Thaye Dorje, and HH Shamar Rinpoche both compassionately granted requests to attend the opening ceremonies of the new Shree Divakar Buddhist Research Institute here in Kalimpong.

Please find below the report on the event filed by Rinpoche today (19 Feb):

 

Shangpa Rinpoche : "I have just returned from Kalimpong today. The opening ceremony of Shree Divakar Buddhist research and institute was a great success. Devotees and Karma Kagyu members from USA, Hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia, France, Germany,

Spain and many other European countries attended the celebrations and opening ceremonies. There were also lots of people from Sikkim and Bhutan in attendence, as well as many local people from Kalimpong. Altogether, there were around 2000 people witnessing the opening ceremony.

On the 17th Feb morning at 9:30am, HH17 Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje, HH Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche, Mr. Hangu Subba ( Vice Chairman of Gorkha hill counsel) arrived at the Institute building. The honorable guest Mr Hangu Subba cut the ribbon and lit the butter lamps.

At 10:00am, HH Shamar Rinpoche gave his speech and this was followed by the Chief guests' speech. After that, the presentation of gifts and souvenirs to the chief guest and sponsors took place.

During lunch time, there were various cultural programmes perform by devotees and school children from Sikkim and Kalimpong.

At 3:00pm, HH17 Gyalwa Karmapa gave the Amitayus (Buddha of Long Life) Initiation to the devotees. There were about 2000 people who attended with great joy."
