HH Karmapa's visit to Singapore

His Holiness 17th Karmapa, Thrinley Thaye Dorje has now arrived at the Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre, Singapore, to give teachings and empowerments. We will be regularly updating this page to bring you images and text of his visit, so please check back often.

7 October 2006 - HH Karmapa arrives

His Holiness arrived at the Karma Kagyud centre around 4.30pm. Our correspondant, Yih Toong, arrived at 3pm to find the final preparations being made.

"The final additions to the special shrine were happening as I arrived, and Shangpa Rinpoche was going round checking that everything was in place, and as it should be in time for His Holiness's arrival."

"Shangpa Rinpoche, Lamas, Anis and all the laypeople took their places outside, waiting for His Holiness's car to arrive.

There was a wave of excitement as Karmapa's car was spotted. His Holiness greeted those waiting for him, and with parasol overhead, he walked slowly throught the gathered throng, and into the main shine room of the centre."

"Shangpa Rinpoche and members of the Karma Kagyud centre committee then presented offerings of Body, Speech and Mind to His Holiness. This was then followed by offerings of rice and tea. Those assembled then chanted the Long Life prayer for His Holiness Karmapa, and in turn, received blessings."

"After the arrival ceremonies were complete, our group of visitors from the Karma Kagyu Dharma Society, Kuala Lumpur, were granted a personal interview with His Holiness".

8 October 2006 - Taking Refuge, Talk on Bodhicitta and Taking Bodhisattva Vows

From 2pm to 5.30pm, His Holiness Karmapa gave the Taking Refuge ceremony for those who wished to take this decisive step onto the Buddhist Path. He then gave a Dharma talk on the subject of Bodhicitta, and then presided over the Taking the Bodhisattva Vows ceremony. This ceremony marks the entrance onto and commitment to the Mahayana path for those who wished to take that step.

Further Videos of HH Karmapa in Singapore

We would like to share another two short (1 minute long) video clips of His Holiness. The first video shows Karmapa granting his blessings to devotees. The second shows him leaving the Futsing Association centre (where many of the events were hosted due to its large size compared to the Singapore Kagyu centre), together with Shangpa Rinpoche to his left.
