HH Shamar Rinpoche meets Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche
Recently, on January 9, 2007, His Holiness Shamarpa Rimpoche met His Holiness Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche at 10 a.m. in the Oberoi Intercontinental Hotel at New Delhi, India.
In the year 2005 while H.H. Shamarpa Rimpoche was teaching at Hong Kong, he received a phone call from H.H. Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche. During the conversation Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche mentioned to Shamarpa Rimpoche that, during his recent meeting with Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche at Bodh Gaya, Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche requested Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche to arrange a personal meeting with .Shamarpa Rimpoche. Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche told Shamarpa Rimpoche that if this meeting between Shamarpa Rimpoche and Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche could take place it would bring positive results for everyone. At that time Shamarpa Rimpoche told Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche that he could not decide about the meeting at that very moment and that he would inform Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche once he was back in India. When he arrived in India Shamarpa Rimpoche sent a written message to Drigung Chetsang Rinpoche thanking him for the message from Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche and also mentioned that the meeting with Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche was not possible at that moment due to obstacles from some politicians based in Sikkim.
Early this year, Venerable Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche of Kaning Shedrub Ling Monastery in Nepal met Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche at Bodh Gaya. Once again Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche mentioned his desire to meet Shamarpa Rimpoche and requested Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche to arrange a personal meeting with Shamarpa Rimpoche. This time Shamarpa Rimpoche out of consideration for Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche accepted the second proposal for the meeting.
During the meeting, I observed clearly that Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche’s intention for having the meeting was to put a stop to the misuse of his name by individuals for their personal interests. He was confident that this meeting would bring peace in the Kagyu School in general and thus help in flourishing Buddha Dharma.
This meeting has created a basis to re-unite all in the Dharma Sangha. Therefore, such an initiative should be appreciated by all.
